The Austin Symphony Orchestra performs Saturday, April 13. The program, titled “Slavic Splendor II” included works by Khachaturian, Stravinsky and Tchaikovsky.

The DODO trio is made up of Sam Blomgren on keys, Cole Koennig on drums and Eric Ross on bass guitar.

The Dresden Dolls are provocative. Fun. Scary. So many odd things at the same time. Initially, I was a fan by marriage, meaning: I have heard of them only ‘cause my friends are really into them. I wasn’t expecting to be moved by this concert to write a review. Critic speak for: I wasn’t expecting to fall in love.

Better Half: Cute name, good location. Great for tourists who are thinking about moving to Austin but need a reason not to.

In 2024, the only reason you’d catch me in a church is for a friend’s wedding or a music thing. This was sort of a mix of both – a classical guitar performance by Austin musician Joaquin McHale as part of his degree requirements from Texas State.

The program for the evening was titled “Good Things Come in Threes” — and indeed they do; the program boasted music by Edvard Grieg, Beethoven and Antonín Dvořák.
